How to speak with school/nursery about my child's food/drink preferences
Overview
Some parents have found it helpful to meet with their school/nursery staff to discuss their child’s specific needs and preferences. By doing so, they can discuss the types of food their child can eat comfortably, any sensory issues related to food, and the time they require to eat comfortably.
You may find it helpful to create an ‘Eating and Drinking plan’. This can help make sure everyone involved in your child's care at school/nursery understands how to make mealtime supportive.
Clearly explain what foods and drinks your child prefers, why they prefer them, and what challenges they might face with eating. The more specific you are, the easier it is for staff to support your child. Its helpful to maintain ongoing communication to discuss how things are going and make any necessary adjustments.
