Reducing sugary foods and drinks

Overview

Cutting down on sugary foods and drinks is an important step towards improving your child's dental health. Parents have told us that making these changes can be challenging, especially if sweets are a regular part of their day.

Remember, these changes might not happen overnight. Patience and consistency are key. Celebrate the small wins, like when your child picks a healthier cracker, includes a bite of fruit alongside their preferred snack, or includes a few sips of water as one of their accepted drinks. By going at your child’s pace, recognising their efforts, and building on their successes, you’ll make this transition smoother and more enjoyable.

Below, you’ll find advice from other parents and professionals, plus tips on reducing sugary foods and drinks, as well as advice related to medication.
